Windows XP Activations Troubleshooting

Step 1
1. Get into Command Prompt.
2. Type cd\windows\system32
3. Type ren wpa.dbl wpa.old
4. Type copy wpa.bak wpa.dbl
5. Restart

Check if you're able to activate, or else follow step 2

Step 2
1. Start > run >regedit>
2. Go to > HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon
3. Add a DWORD value to this key that is named “Activation Required”, and then set the value of this DWORD to 1.

Restart and check if you're able to activate, if still no go, keep on following

Step 3
1. Start > run >regedit>
2. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows NT\Current Version\WPAEvents\OOBETimer
3. Make some random changes to the value, do not restart, then try to

Activate again by running the command c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe /a

Step 4
1. Get into Command Prompt
2. Type cd\windows\system32
3. Type ren wpa.dbl wpa.old
4. expand d:\i386\wpa.db_ wpa.dbl
5. Restart

well if you're having activations issues, you can follow steps below to resolve it

Firstly you will need to know about slmgr commands, have a look below

1. slmgr -dli (this will display the current activation/licensing info of the pc your on)

2. slmgr -ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx (allows you to replace the current product key with the specified)

3. slmgr -xpr (shows expiration date of current license)

4. slmgr -upk (uninstalls current product key)

5. slmgr -ato (activates current pc’s license)

6. slmgr -skms activationservername/slmgr -skms port/slmgr –skms activationservername:port (sets KMS server used for activation and/or port, ie slmgr -skms 192.168.10.1:8090 or slmgr -skms KMSServer:8090)

7. slmgr -rearm (resets the licensing status of the machine)

8. slmgr -ckms (clears the name of KMS server used to default and port to default)

If you have trouble activating WinVista or Win Svr 2008, This is what you can do :

1. Access command prompt in elevated mode

2. Slmgr –upk (this will uninstall the current product key)

3. Slmgr –rearm (reset the activation files

4. Perform reactivation of the system

Restart pc & reactivate windows or to ensure that system does not prompt for reactivation
To bring up the activation screen simply type in slui4.exe in the run command

This error is displayed as follows:

Activation Error 0xC004F050
This error is displayed as follows:

The following failure occurred while trying to use the product key:

0xC004F050

The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid

Troubleshooting for this issue is provided in the following Knowledge Base article: 950756 Error message when you try to activate a copy of Windows Vista by using the Windows Activation wizard: “The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid: 0xC004F050″

This issue may also be resolved using the standard troubleshooting steps provided above, as the cause for the key error could be damaged software licensing files.

Activation Error 0xC004F061
This error is displayed as follows:

The following failure occurred while trying to use the product key:

0xC004F061

The Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations.

This error is encountered when you perform a clean installation of Windows without entering a product key, and then provide a Retail Upgrade key during the Activation wizard.

If everything else fails and you stuck, Its about time to call Microsoft.
