ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has resurrected a plan to create an Internet domain specifically for adult websites, three years after it was rejected.
The internet corporation for assigned names and numbers-the organization tasked with assigning domain names and IP Addresses - Has officially approved the domain type .xxx for pornographic websites.
The move has fostered opposition from both the porn industry ( which doesn't want to be relegated to a separate part of the internet - according to an insider)
and conservatives who believe that the domain type legitimizes porn sites.
The .xxx designation will be voluntary; sites that don't want to use it will still be able to register under the classic .com
